About the Role

Hi5 is seeking an expert-level Metal Fabricator with a strong emphasis on welding to join our elite team. This is a high-level position — we are looking for the most talented metal fabricators in the Kansas City area. There is no on-the-job training; you are expected to bring advanced knowledge, skills, and discipline from day one. If you have fewer than 5 years of professional experience, this role is not for you.

Our work demands exceptional precision, craftsmanship, and attention to detail, as we fabricate custom metal components for high-end commercial furniture. Every piece must meet the highest quality standards, where welds disappear seamlessly into the final product.

Requirements

  • Education: Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Welding Technology, or completion of a 2-year vocational/community college welding program.
  • Certification: Up-to-date AWS (American Welding Society) certification.
  • Experience: Minimum 5+ years in fabrication and welding, with expertise in carbon steel and stainless steel.
  • Expert Skills:
  • Mastery of MIG and TIG welding (emphasis on weld aesthetics and blending).
  • Reading and analyzing manufacturing/engineering drawings, with the ability to identify and propose corrections before fabrication.
  • Fit-up and fixture skills using custom welding tables for efficient, accurate joints.
  • Grinding, weld blending, and finishing to create seamless, paint-ready surfaces.
  • Preparing and inspecting finished parts for powder coating and final QC sign-off.
  • Proficiency with fabrication equipment: Amada Fiber Lasers (sheet metal/tube), press brake, tube bender, welding equipment, grinders, drills, and machining tools.
  • Strong math, measurement, and tolerance analysis skills.
  • Physical stamina, dexterity, and mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to use CAD software (preferred, not required).

Daily Responsibilities

  • Analyze engineering prints and proactively communicate revisions to reduce rework.
  • Fabricate, weld, and finish metal components within tight tolerances for custom furniture.
  • Execute precise fit-up, tack, MIG, and TIG welding to create highly aesthetic welds.
  • Grind, blend, and polish welds so that joints appear invisible in the finished product.
  • Prepare surfaces for powder coating using dual-action sanding and finishing techniques.
  • Inspect parts against drawings and sign off on quality before release to the next station.

Personality Traits We Value

  • Calm under pressure and professional in all situations.
  • Integrity, accountability, and resilience.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Self-awareness and adaptability.
  • Vision for continuous improvement and craftsmanship excellence.
